Installing SlickGallery

SlickGallery's installation is extremely easy and straightforward. You just need to upload the gallery files from the archive, navigate to the gallery URL, and follow the installer. In this tutorial we are going to cover the installation step by step.

Unzipping the script archive

After purchasing SlickGallery from our site, you've downloaded a zip file containg the script. The first step is to unzip the archive somewhere on your hard drive. You end up with a slickgallery folder, which contains the gallery files, and a developer folder with all the PSD files that can be used for customizations.

Uploading

You need to upload the contents of the slickgallery folder somewhere on your site. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will asume that you chose to upload the gallery to http://yoursite.com/slickgallery/, however any path will do. You can upload the gallery to a separate subdomain or a subfolder. It is only important to make the address descriptive, as this is the URL that is going to be visible to your visitors..

For uploading the folder to your hosting account, you can use any FTP client.

Following the Installer, Step 1

To start up the installation, you need to navigate to the URL you uploaded your gallery to in the previous step. The installer will automatically fire up. Step 1 of the installation is purely informative, and you should see a "Next" button right away.

Step 1

Depending on your hosting configuration, the "Next" button might not be visible, and the script might require you to CHMOD the folders, in which SlickGallery stores your images, to 777. This is a fairly standart procedure, and you can easily do this from your FTP client. After you've issued the chmod command, reload the page and click the "Next" button to continue to the next step.

Step 2 - MySQL login details

Step two requires you to enter your MySQL login details. These should be made available to you by your hosting provider.

Step 1

The script will not create any tables at this stage. It will only validate that you've filled in correct data, by opening a test connection to the database.

Step 3 - Account details

In step three you choose the username and password with which you are going to access the admin panel. Choose a secure name and password combination.

Step 1

Provide a valid email address at this step, as this is where you are going to receive your "Forgotten password" emails if you happen to need the feature.

You can change your password at any time from the admin panel, but you cannot change your email or username.

Step 4 - Finishing the installation

Pressing "Finish" will create all the tables in the database, populate them with sample data, and create your admin account. Remember to delete the "Install" folder from your server with your FTP client.

Enjoy your new SlickGallery installation!
